Narooma Arts & Community Centre Project

The proposed Narooma Arts & Community Centre (the NACC Project) will be an inspiring and vital cultural and community centre for everyone. It has been designed by CK Architecture (formerly ClarkeKeller) to meet needs identified by our community well into the future.

The NACC’s design and amenity has been extensively thought through and is proudly supported by the community as well as South East Arts, the River of Art, Eurobodalla Shire Council and Narooma Chamber of Commerce.

NACC plans have Development Consent from Council.

The NACC Project addresses the following community needs:

  1. Lack of sufficient arts and community workshop and meeting spaces of suitable size for permanent and casual use which hindered the community’s capacity to participate in and develop the arts.

  2. A lack of suitable purpose-built spaces for exhibitions that are also accessible to the public. This hindered the community’s capacity to participate in and develop the arts.

Key stakeholders concluded building new purpose-built facilities, the NACC, on the community-owned land was the best long term solution. The NACC project closely aligns with regional, NSW and national strategies.

The NACC will be a hub for creative arts, adult education and events. It includes:

  • three practical and adaptable studios/ workshops/ meeting rooms, the largest with a timber sprung floor

  • a large gallery with highway frontage

  • a catering level kitchen to service openings

  • events associated parking

The estimated cost in January 2021 is $7.28m which includes detailed engineering and design, construction, fit out and contingencies. Once funding is secured, detailed planning, design and construction can proceed.

The benefits from the NACC Project for the region far outweigh the costs. Benefits include:

  • strengthening the health, wellbeing and resilience of our community

  • a place to explore the arts a place to be creative, share ideas skills and knowledge

  • a place that promotes education and lifelong learning

  • a place that supports heritage values

  • stimulating economic growth, particularly through cultural and creative tourism
